It is an exciting time to be at the House! Over the past year the Historic Stranahan House Museum has taken great strides to make our tours more accessible to ALL guests regardless of ability. In partnership with a group of 7 dedicated community volunteers from Leadership Broward Class 37, Stranahan House worked with experts in the field to create an accessibility app to provide a full tour of Broward County's oldest and most historically significant homesite.
This app was created in response to the challenges posed by the 1901 historic structure. Guests with limited or no mobility, sight, or hearing can enjoy the tour with use of an ipad provided by Stranahan House that provides a full narrated guided tour with access to 200 languages in closed captioning. Earphones, hand and mouth stylus, and other supportive devices will be provided to enhance the experience.
Following more than six months of app development, beta testing and multiple focus groups conducted with adults living with disabilities at the Center for Independent Living of Broward, Stranahan House launched the app on May 31st and will spend the summer training staff and volunteers.
Vital support for the app's creation and development was provided by videographer and editor Amanda Burns, who shot and formatted immersive 3D footage of the House. Deborah Bennett, co-founder and CEO of the Deberi Group, generously provided expertise to build the app to best meet the Stranahan House needs. The Deberi Group is a member-based group of angel investors comprised of successful entrepreneurs and business executives who invest in women- and minority-owned high-tech startups that positively impact the lives of people through the use of digital technologies.

It can be estimated that over $100,000 in services were provided to produce this one-of-a-kind experience. The final piece to make the app active is to add wifi to the historic structure. To meet this end, the Historic Stranahan House Museum must raise $1,000 of a $2,000 goal.
To help us complete our efforts to make the Historic Stranahan House Museum more accessible and accommodating to all guests, please help us raise $1,000. You can make a donation online at:
