The Center for Independent Living and the City of Fort Lauderdale have agreed to collaborate via grant funding. The City’s grant will allow the Center for Independent Living of Broward to assist people with disabilities to obtain housing in Broward County.
The program will provide between 50 - 75 City of Fort Lauderdale residents with disabilities free assistance with finding comprehensive resources with locating affordable and accessible housing and provide independent living skills training, education, and support.
The support includes budget studies, housing searches, and connection to resources for eligible individuals. The Ramps to Independence: Barrier Removal for individuals Living with Disabilities will provide eligible Fort Lauderdale residents living with disabilities with the removal of physical barriers in their homes.
The program increases the client's accessibility and furthers their independence while reducing the need to live with family or move into a nursing home.
